go, go, go little boy

apparently our lives have been super duper busy; i have not “journaled” since jackson first started body smiling. wowzas. so darn much has happened in the last couple of months i almost don’t know where to start.

first and foremost; cannibalism. unfortunately, it has not gotten any better. on a daily basis i continue to have immense urges to take a big fat bite of ham hawk, or a sweet little nibble of cheek. ok, let me re-phrase. first and foremost; LOVE. if at all possible (which it is) i am more and more in love with jackson every minute. he is growing into such an amazing little boy. his big blue eyes light up when he sees me or justin. he squeals with delight when we tickle him and especially when he plays with his papa. justin will spend hours on the floor with jackson kissing and snarling (he LOVES snarling) and pretending to chomp on his neck. jackson curls up in anticipation, closes his eyes and shrieks. it’s the most wonderful sound imaginable.

this week, jackson has been blessing our lives for 5 1/2 months. such a short time, really. it amazes me that in this short time our little, sleepy newborn has transformed into a robust, go, go, go little boy.

this transition from sleepy newborn to go, go, go little boy happened virtually overnight. and much like the ebb and flow of pregnancy, which was hard to see when happening, it was so glorious to watch and in real time, see these huge strides.

at the end of the third month we hit major motor skill milestones. grabbing toys, holding teethers and amazingly keeping them in the mouth. sitting up in a tri-pod (arms on the floor in front of legs) and rolling over from back to belly came in the same week. and let me tell you, once this boy conquers a feat there is NO turning back. the small fleece blanket we’d been placing jackson on to play…not so much. he’s everywhere. thanks again mom for that great, and very pretty yellow, vacuum you bought me. we have been bonding daily.

over that magnificent fourth month those motor skills just became finer and finer. rolling in 5 seconds flat from one end of our house to the other, sitting up right without hands for balance. laughing out loud, aiming for and getting on the first try: mom’s earrings, necklace, hair, nose, lips and ears. not to mention clearing any table in one fell swoop.

september 27th (5 months exactly from my original due date) jackson tasted his first real food; home made sweet potato. unfortunately, we tried a little too late in the evening when all he really wanted was boob and bed, but he did have a few suspicious bites. over the next two weeks he found a strong love for that orange goodness and also flirted with banana, apple and peas. all were big hits except for the peas. really, who can blame him.

if you asked me back on may 14th (let’s just say) if we’d be sleeping soundly “through the night” on October 14th i’d say absolutely. well we’re not. but, i think we’re slowly, and i mean ever so slowly getting there. the last two weeks jackson has been fighting a cold and come to find out, ear infection so as it goes in the game chutes and latters we slid all the way back to start. after two trips to cvs two nights in a row (the wee-hour cvs crowd is super scary, btw)  and justin’s brilliant idea to move our very large swing/ski lift up to our bedroom we had an hour of shut-eye. nasal aspirator after nasal aspirator (finally found a KICK ASS one,”Nosfrida”), inclined crib and humidifier on over-drive not making an ounce of difference led us to dr. leah post and a prescription for amoxicillin. no wonder the kid screamed every time you put him down, she said, he’s got an ear infection. well excuse me, dr. leah post for trying so darn hard not to be that first time mom in your office over a stuffy nose. next time i’ll call you when he needs his nails clipped. sarcasm aside, we love dr. leah post. she rocks.

today, nose is dry, cough has subsided, crib is back down on all fours, humidifier is on low and our lives are back to normal. and get this, jackson had the best night ever last night. bed at 7, up at 10 to eat (fell asleep w/o eating much) then slept all the way to 5! ate at 5 and then slept til 8. pure heaven. perhaps this little boy will soon realize that he needs sleep, sleep, sleep to make his go, go, go (and mom and dad’s) possible.
